chocolate

loving you was like drinking hot chocolate
just from the kettle;
so I burnt myself now and then
but just kept coming back for more
because you kept me sane

And when the cup was empty you remained
and kissed my scars away
as you snuck my work from under my hands
when I was distracted
by the feel of your lips

But when the work was done
and the kettle refilled
we would sit
and wait for the water to boil again
and I knew then,
I didn't know you nearly as well
as I had dreamed

and I loved you even more for it

after all, what use is chocolate
if it dosen't help you to forget
the world's troubles?

and even still I liked to believe that you'd be there
